About Dr. Wagner

Dr Martin Wagner was born in Missouri but was raised in Houston, TX. His premed and undergraduate education were at Tulane University in New Orleans under a four-year academic scholarship. He was accepted to prestigious Baylor College of Medicine, located in the Texas Medical Center. There he received highest honors in neurology and psychiatry electives. While at Baylor, he lived at the Veterans Administration Medical Center where he was given free accomodations  and meals in exchange for one night per week work as an EKG technician or phlebotomist. After four years of medical school at Baylor, he stayed on for an internship and then full three-year residency training in psychiatry. He found neurology to be an exciting field and chose to pursue a three-year residency in neurology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.


Dr Wagner and his family moved to Nashville in 1984 opening a private practice in adult neurology. Here, he has treated over 30,000 patients, served on the active staff of numerous hospitals, and completed over 20 years of acute hospital experience. For over a decade, he was the only neurologist serving the Donelson, Hermitage, Old Hickory, Hendersonville, and Gallatin areas. For many years he was the neurologist for Rebound, a head trauma rehabilitation facility at Sumner Regional Medical Center.


He has had over 30 years of experience in neurology practice.  Since 2006, Dr Wagner has limited his practice to outpatient neurology. His areas of interest are migraine, epilepsy, EEG, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, EMG, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, cervical dystonia, non-cosmetic Botox/Dysport therapy, fibromyalgia, neck pain, low back pain, head trauma, TIA, and stroke. He has performed over 500 Independent Medical Evaluations, medical record reviews, worker's compensation evaluations, medical impairment ratings, peer reviews, second opinion exams, and expert witness testimony for Defense and Plaintiff. He has performed over 5000 social security disability exams.


Dr Wagner is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the governing body for the medical specialties of neurology and psychiatry. His office is on the campus of Summit Medical Center. He holds a clinical faculty position at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is also on staff at St Thomas Hospital.   He is fluent in both English and Spanish. He believes in compassionate and cost-effective medical care where his patients and medical staff are treated with dignity and respect.
